A Patchwork Past (Plain Patterns #2) by Leslie Gould

 

This was another great book by Leslie Gould but a little more involved than usual and very interesting.  The narrative switched back and forth between Sophie, a young adult who has not joined the church and who has lived away from home for a few years and an ancestor who had lived in the same area in the 1800s.  The Chicago fire is showcased in the historical part and modern issues such as Lupus, immigration and other problems.  The books is well researched and very informative as well as just fun to read.  I highly recommend this book.  It’s a cut above the run of the mill Amish book.  If you love Historical novels, this book is for you.

An Unlikely Match by Beth Wiseman

 

Two elderly Amish ladies run an Inn in a small Amish village.  When a production crew rents their rooms for a movie shoot a lot of Englishers arrive on their property.  Among them is Jayce the son of the Producer, a young adult with a wish for a simpler life.  He meets Evelyn, a local Amish girl in her Rumspringa and is fascinated with her and her simple ways.

Pine Creek Courtship (Pine Creek #1) by Amity Hope

 

Emma and Levi had been friends and cared about each other since childhood.  When Emma's father died and left her in charge of the farm and her siblings, well meaning relatives tried to get her to marry someone and sell the farm.  Levi stepped in and told them he was courting her and the problem would soon be solved.  As in all good plots, circumstances led to a lot of soul searching on the way to that goal.  It was a fun story with likeable characters ( and a few no so likable ) and interesting events.  I totally recommend this book to anyone who loves Amish fiction.

Wrapped in Christmas Joy by Janice Lynn

Christmas, quilt shop, fireman, Marine  — what better ingredients for a satisfying love story?

Sophie runs a quilt shop with her sister in a small Kentucky town. Cole is a firefighter new to town. Its Christmas and the effervescent Sophie meets the reticent ex-Marine, Cole, and there is a strong attraction that she grasps with all her being and he resists with as much resistance as he can muster, afraid his PTSD will somehow hurt her. 

This is a fun story — just as fun as the one last year from this author. If you love romance and Christmas stories this will not disappoint.

Night Fall (The Quantico Files Book 1) by Nancy Mehl

 

This is a fast paced story about Alex and Logan, two FBI profiling agents who are partners in a race against time to locate a cult member who is murdering people and is set to release a deadly virus that will kill millions of people. The investigation location is Wichita KS and Kansas City, MO. The characters are well developed and the plot is well thought out. It was a nailbiter.

Nancy Mehl never disappoints.

The Dress Shop on King Street (Heirloom Secrets, #1) by Ashley Clark

 

Harper is finishing her design course and is hoping to open a dress shop.  While in Charleston, she meets Peter, who owns an old building that would be perfect for a shop.  Later she goes to visit an old mentor, Millie, who runs a boarding house in Alabama.  Millie has secrets from her past, but she too had always wantd to run a dress shop.  Together they go to Charleston and contact Peter.  This story flips back and forth from the past to the present.  Millie's ancestors are explored throughout as well as Millie's early life.  It is a poignant picture of the old South from slave days to modern times.  

There is a lot of historical detail here and a lot to absorb about the culture of the South.  I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good historical story.

A Woman of Intelligence by Karin Tenabe

Rina was an interpreter at the United Nations in New York in the late 1940s after the war. Then she met Tom, a gifted childrens surgeon with a moneyed background and fell in love. Now in the early 1950s she the mother of two trying to balance motherhood and society duties and feeling very bored. An opportunity  falls in her lap to help the FBI root out communists and she jumps at the chance!

This is a fascinating look at 1950s life in New York. It is well researched and enjoyable to read.
