When I Meet You (Tree of Life Book 3) by Olivia Newport

This is a story about a professional genealogist who is also solving the mystery of a trunk abandoned at Union Station in Denver in 1909. What happened to the owner? Why didn’t she claim her trunk? Was her identity stolen? Meanwhile, her attorney father has agreed to cook for 200 people at a celebration in their small mountain community in Colorado. This is somewhat interesting but to make it more interesting, recipes at the back of the book would have been nice. Otherwise this part of the story made it kind of slow going and less appealing. The historical and genealogical aspects were extremely interesting to me since I am also a genealogist.

I would recommend this book to a limited number of my friends with similar interests.

Flight Risk by Cara C. Putman

Savannah is an attorney whose ex-husband Dustin had gotten involved with Savannah’s sister and produced her niece Addy. Addy is the light of her life and she basically takes care of her most of the time because Addy’s mother is an addict.

Jett is a reporter who breaks a sex trafficking story involving a famous baseball player player and his friends including Savannah’s ex-husband Dustin. Soon after there is a plane crash involving two of the ring and a problem for one of Savannah’s clients. Savannah and Jett team up to figure out why there are so many unexplained factors in this tragedy and they begin to unravel some of the research that was done for Jett’s article.

This is a great mystery and it is a page-turner. I recommend it to all my friends who like this genre.

Dead End (Kaely Quinn Profiler Book 3) by Nancy Mehl

This book carries on the story of Kaely Quinn, an FBI profiler whose father was in prison for being a serial killer. Suddenly a copycat appears and Kaely is pressed to visit her father and see if she can get him to reveal who he may have been meeting with and mentoring. There is a romance budding with her FBI agent partner which keeps her Kaely’s life interesting. This is one of those mysteries that keeps you guessing until the very end. I love Nancy Mehl’s stories and this is one of the best.

I recommend this book to mystery-loving friends.

The Finders (Mace Reid Canine Mystery Book 1) by Jeffrey B. Burton

This book was great! It made me keep reading to the point of neglecting other things (like sleeping). It started out a little weird and I couldn’t figure out who was talking and which person / persons were the main characters until I read a couple of chapters and then when that was established, the story moved right along. I loved the characters and can’t wait to see most of them again in book 2. The plot revolved about a psychopath serial killer. That subject always fascinated me because it is hard to fathom what makes people turn out that way. Jeffrey Burton is a new author to me but I’m sure I will become more acquainted with his writing in the future. I also love to read about K-9s.


I recommend this book to all my mystery loving friends out there.

Don't Turn Back (Detective Karen Hart Book 3) by D. S. Butler

Detective Karen Hart is a police officer in a small hamlet in Great Britain. She is drawn into a murder case when a body is found in a local park. Karen is a widow and is still haunted by the traffic accident that took her husband and daughter. There are people in the department that make her job easier and some that make it harder. Dealing with personal grief, departmental politics and interference from the outside she still manages to do a good job of solving the crime.

The location is fun (UK), the characters are interesting and the mystery stays a mystery until the end. I recommend this to mystery fans and police story fans everywhere.

Dead Silence by Robin Caroll

Elise is a widow and her young son is deaf. She makes her living interpreting for hearings at the State Capitol building. She sees someone in the lobby speaking on the phone about a plot to murder a well known state senator. She is a very good lip reader and understands what he is saying even though he is across the room. She wakes up the next morning to news that her mother in law was murdered. Her mother-in-law was the senator the man had been speaking about. What ensues is dealing with FBI agents who consider her a suspect, being stalked by someone who wants her to keep silent, and she and her friends and family trying to search out the truth for themselves.


This story was well crafted. I liked the character development and the fact that the author featured a much loved special needs child in the story.

Tranquility Falls (Miramar Bay Book 4) by Davis Bunn

Daniel was once a TV personality in Los Angeles until a personal tragedy occurred and threw him into a tailspin. Now he is in Miramar trying to live a quiet life, attend AA meetings and recover from his past. But his past comes to join him in the guise of his niece whose mother (Daniel’s sister) has dramatically dropped her off because she is angry with her. Meanwhile, his best friends’ daughter is rebelling and Daniel is being drawn into the fray. Add to this, a new friend is being accused of mishandling money at City Hall and Daniel gets involved trying to help her prove that she is innocent. All this turmoil forces Daniel to face his own past and deal with some issues that have been on hold.

This is a very interesting story and I had trouble putting it down. I kept looking at the last page over and over to make sure that was really the end because I didn’t want to leave this story behind. Hopefully there will be another book in this series so I can continue the experience.

Secrets of My Heart (Willamette Brides Book #1) by Tracie Peterson

Nancy Pritchard’s husband is found dead one morning in 1879 and Nancy is left to take care of everything. She has no knowledge of her husband’s business or household accounts because her husband had taken care of that. She soon becomes aware that that was not all she wasn’t aware of in her husband’s dealings. One of his friends is trying to marry Nancy so he can get his hands on everything and Nancy hires a law firm to handle the estate and also investigate the mysteries behind her husband’s secrets. Seth Carpenter, an old friend from her childhood is working for the firm.

This book is interesting from a historical point of view. The characters are interesting as well. Nancy’s emotional / psychological quirks are a little hard to understand but the story is solid and I enjoyed reading it.

Light Shines on Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard

I love this series by Charlotte Hubbard. After so many books I know the characters intimately and they seem like friends. In this book, as always, romance is in the air but trouble has come to Promise Lodge in the form of a Bishop from Pennsylvania that is causing turmoil among the flock.

Whether you are a fan of Amish fiction or not, this series is good reading and this author is very good at her craft and I invite you to try reading this series from the beginning.

The Farm Stand (An Amish Marketplace Novel Book 2) Book 2 of 3: An Amish Marketplace by Amy Clipston

This is a new twist for an Amish fiction story. Salina is an Old Order Amish woman who has a farm stand at the local “market” where she sells the fruit and vegetables from her garden. Will, the owner of a restaurant across the street discovers her produce and starts buying large quantities of it to feature in his restaurant. Here’s the rub: Will is a Mennonite and has a full time girlfriend but her is attracted to Salina. Salina is being pressured by her father, the Bishop, to marry an old friend. Salina is also attracted to Will. It makes for interesting reading.

I like the way this author writes and the characters in her books are all people you would like to be friends with. I recommend this book to all who like Amish fiction.

The Runaway Bride (The Bride Ships Book #2) Book 2 of 4: The Bride Ships by Jody Hedlund

This books was very enjoyable and not your run of the mill historical romance. Arabella leaves England and hops on a bride ship to British Columbia to escape the marriage her father has arranged for her with a wealthy, cruel older man. When she arrives Lt Drummond of the Royal Navy pursues her but Peter, the town baker also sets his cap for her. Will she go for the status quo or learn new things that are “beneath” her but still fascinate her?

This book was very well researched and written and I recommend it to anyone who loves a good historical.
